Martin’s Bay Barbados finds itself on the east coast of Barbados in the parish of st. John. It lies to the south of Bathsheba, another east coast beach here in Barbados. Furthermore, Martin’s Bay Barbados is a small fishing village, a place of peace and an excellent liming spot. And also where you can get good food and drink.

Rugged Martin’s Bay.

Everything about Martin’s Bay speaks to its ruggedness. From the waves coming across the shallow reef to the rocks lining the coast. This Bay is temperamental.

When I left the bus terminal, it was nice and sunny but, upon arriving on the east coast. It was overcast and started to rain. I guess that’s what tropical islands do! Play with your emotions.

Staring up the coast, wondering if my trip was over, the view reminded me of one of those old British coastal horrors. However, no sooner had that thought crossed my mind, the sun started to peep out again.

Like us, locals would say.” The devil and his wife are fighting for the Cou-Cou stick”.

The drive up is part of the experience.

Don’t discount your drive up to Martin’s Bay. Barbados is beautiful and scenic. And even more so during the rainy season, when everything is lush and green.

When you are on the bus, the coast sneaks up on you. There is a moment when the bus goes over a hill, and suddenly, you see Martin’s Bay. There is no warning.

I live where you vacation.

Once my vacation had started. I decided that I would take the bus to Martin’s Bay on a Thursday. For the sole purpose of enjoying the lime at The Bay Tavern. I remember that The Bay Tavern use to hold Banks Beer promotions every Thursday. But it has been aeons since I have been to any of them.

Upon reaching Martin’s Bay, the fact that I hadn’t been to the area in aeons was clear. The Bay Tavern was now a spanking new facility, with a restaurant and seating upstairs. And a well-stocked bar downstairs.

Nonetheless, if you are like me, It is not inside the spanking new facility where you want to be. But, on the paintless, weather-beaten benches on the lawn in front of the beach. And that is where I set up camp for the day.

Once I had secured my bench on the lawn. I went up to the restaurant and placed my order for lunch beforehand. Such An act, by the way, would turn into the smartest thing I did all day.

You see! Only about five passengers got off the bus at The Bay Tavern. So I was under the impression the crowds were no longer showing up because of the covid restrictions in place.

But, that couldn’t be further from the truth. After, passing the morning taking photos and videos of the coast. I returned to the restaurant at One 0’clock to collect my lunch. And boy, were I in for a surprise!

The car park was filling up. So too were all the seated areas around the building. And there was already a lunch line. It’s a good thing that I had ordered lunch beforehand. Hence, ‘The smartest thing I did all day”.

Martin’s Bay is tranquil, peaceful, relaxing and scenic.

How to get to Martin’s Bay Barbados?

First things first, let’s assume that you are already in Barbados. ”lol, I just am kidding”. In my case of being someone with no wheels at the time of this trip. I got up early, got all my equipment together and headed down to The Fairchild Street Bus Terminal in Bridgetown.

  • Take the bus. I remember that a retired friend of mine mentioned that he goes to the Thursday lime at Martin’s Bay every week. And that he takes the 10:30 bus to Martin’s Bay. So, that is what I did. Go to The Fairchild Street Bus Terminal. Join the queue at Gate 6 and, you are good to go . https://www.transportboard.com/
  • Take a Taxi. This one is simple. Even so, Call a taxi from wherever you are in Barbados and ask the driver to take you to Martin’s Bay.
  • Hire a car. There are a lot of rental car companies in Barbados. Therefore, I am willing to bet that, if you were going to hire a car. You would have gotten one at the airport. Or, at the very same time, you booked your flight to Barbados.
  •  Ride a bike. A few bike tour companies operate here in Barbados. You can choose with part of the island you want to explore. Moreover, you can select the type of bike you want to ride. Be it hybrid, electric or pedal.

Make sure to charge your phone battery and get a data plan and also download Google maps. Type in Martin’s Bay in the search bar, lol and Voila! You are on your way!

Finally, Don’t get lost! I am crossing my fingers.

Who should go to Martin’s Bay?

I am sorry, but Martin’s Bay is no Carlise Bay nor Bottom Bay. You won’t find any scantily clad bottoms on this beach. ”Pun intended”. P.S. Bottom- Bay is an actual beach here in Barbados. I am not just trying to be cheeky, lol. Cheeky, get it?

Anyone can go to Martin’s Bay, and it doesn’t just have to be on a Thursday.

If you want to get away from the crowded beaches on the south coast, the east coast is an alternative.

What to do at Martin’s Bay?

Martin’s Bay is perfect for getting some relaxation. So here is a list of things I might do at Martin’s Bay.

Take along something to read. I read sites like CNN, MSNBC, HuffPost, BBC and interesting articles I find online. Moreover, I always have my copy of “The Greatness Guide” by Robin Sharma in my backpack. So pack your favourite reading material, and you are all set.

Walk along the beach.

Take a hammock. There are lot’s of coconut trees at Martin’s Bay and, they are close enough to each other to hang a hammock. Just imagine! You could be swinging from a hammock, sipping an ice-cold beer, and reading your favourite book. It can’t get any better than that.

Go on a picnic. Picnicking in Barbados is no small matter. Mention the words Bank Holiday or Long Weekend, and every beach or national park will get filled up with happy picnickers. So pack your favourite foods. Pack your cooler and enjoy your picnic. Remember! If you plan to use your barbecue grill on the beach. You have to get permission from The National Conservation Commission.

Have lunch at The Bay Tavern. If you are not fussy about waking up early to prepare food for a picnic, then eat at The Bay Tavern. The Bay Tavern serves food every day of the week, not just on Thursdays.

Hike The Old Train Line. There are a few groups on the island who do guide tours around the island. However, The old railway tour between Martin’s Bay and Bath Beach seems to be one of the more popular ones.
